"Think Outside The Box"
|
For this project I decided to think outside the box by...putting my project inside a box. It seemed like an innovative idea outside the repeating pattern idea. While resembling a blues clues background of a mother's Mexican themed kitchen, I'm still proud of my work. |
Perspective HouseImpressionism Painting |
So I only have one progress photo as I didn't get a true hang on my perspective drawing until now. But here is my dream house! It's a log 'cabin' in a field surrounded by forest. There's a path to the house but no driveway as that's further down. Wide windows in the front but none on the sides. It's a very open concept feel. Perspective is definitely difficult, it took me rewatching the tutorial four times before I got a hang of it. However, I'm proud of my little cabin. Shown first is my starting sketch for my painting
For my 'bathroom' I wanted an older dingier feel with the dry brushed rusty brown wall and lopsided tile. Then for the rug to get a fluffier look I used the paper towel technique we learned early on. As I went on I added an overflowing sink detail to the piece and scaled back on the objects in the art piece as I liked the ominous look of the empty bathroom. I blended in some white highlights to the mirror itself to get a bit of the shine. For the tile I attempted to do the pointilism method. |
Alebrijes Sculputure |
The first picture is the concept sketch for my alebrijes which is a combination of goat, cat, and rabbit As you can see, the face is a bit rough, but believe it or not I worked the hardest and longest on that part. I used my scoring tool to add lines that resembled the wiry hair of a goat or cat perhaps. Then, of course, we have the floppy bunny ears. I added a snout and removed my previous face and whiskers then I added a tail. The snout broke off multiple times but now it finally has stayed. I think. I liked the neon look many painted alebrijes had with the dots and stripes and went with that for my painted version. |
Self Portrait Project |
While I was drawing my self portrait I thought it looked fine. Later I realized how off some of the proportions were and attempted to fix them, though I'm not sure it made much difference. In the second to last image I tweaked the drawing a fair bit. I lengthened my lips, thinned my eyebrows, and added more hair on my scalp. I think my work with value is getting a tad bit better. I'm proud of this portrait however because it shows I've come pretty far with my drawing. In my final image I added my symbols. A laurel wreath behind me which does not symbolise victory but rather the greek myth where in Apollo has an unreciprocated love with a nymph who then turns into a laurel tree to get away from him. Next is a half bloomed rose that is grey on the outside by white on the inside, I don't think I need to explain that one. Finally is a symbol of intersecting crescent moons which I simply do not want to explain. |
Portrait Pre-test Project |
Here is the first 4 steps of our portrait project. The eyes. I tried to make them as similar to mine as possible. The texturing of the eyes was a little difficult considering how much I struggle with value, and it's still not the way I'd like it to look, but I'm proud of it. I also struggled with the interior of the ears and making them even to each other. |
